Thanks, Matt. I hope you don't mind me asking a question. I love the sound of 2 finger but would like to use it as backup. All the teaching seems to arrangements of tunes. Is backing up with 2 finger even doable? Thanks for any help.

Thanks both. I loved hearing about how he started to learn the banjo. I'm a little older than Paul and well remember learning guitar by trying to work out what people like Woody Guthrie and the young Bob Dylan were doing. And later Mississippi John Hurt. Really listening and ruining my dad's record player stylus. By the time I fell for banjo about 10 years ago there was so much help and inspiration available on the web. So thanks Paul and Matt and a big shout out to Tom Collins' clawhammer help.

Thanks for sharing this. I only "discovered" the banjo this year, and I now own two of them. I want to learn a little clawhammer eventually, but for now, even though I'm not a very good musician, two finger style seems the most intuitive to me. I have enjoyed watching several of your other interview videos, so keep up the good work.

I started on frailing the banjo, then came double thumbing or drop thumb frailing, and maybe a year or two later I got started on two finger picking, which Art Rosenbaum called "two finger Kentuckey thumb lead". Nowadays, many a time I'll start a tune in one style and then lapse into the other style without really thinking about it. That's frailing/clawhammer and two finger style, they seem at least to me to be very complimentary to each other.

I`ll be watching this again, as soon as I can get my jaw off the floor
